Overview
AppTrap is a small uninstaller utility for macOS that lives inside the System Preferences panel. Once enabled it can run automatically at startup and quietly monitor removals so you don't have to manage leftover files manually.
Main advantages
- Removes related files and folders tied to an app automatically when you delete the app.
- Operates in the background with minimal interaction required from you.
- Can be turned on with a single click and set to launch at login.
- Designed to be straightforward and unobtrusive in everyday use.
How to enable and run
Open your preferences pane, enable AppTrap, and choose whether it should launch at startup. When active, it watches for application deletions and offers to clear associated files without further steps.
Potential concerns
Because AppTrap purges files linked to an application, you may not always be certain which supporting items will be removed. Be cautious when letting it delete files automatically, and check the uninstall confirmation dialog if you want to review what will be removed. Recent updates added a warning that an app you’re deleting might simply be performing an update, so double-check before proceeding.
Recommended substitute
If you want an alternative option, consider CheatSheet (free) as a recommended replacement.
