Program overview
Amrit Sarovar is a national water-conservation effort launched by the Prime Minister of India on April 24, 2022. Rolled out as part of the Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, the scheme focuses on creating and restoring surface water bodies across the country to strengthen local water availability and resilience.
Targets and objectives
- Create or rejuvenate 75 ponds, lakes, or other water bodies in every district of India.
- Provide long-term water security and improve groundwater recharge and watershed health.
- Leave a sustainable, commemorative legacy for the 75th anniversary of independence.
Mobile application details
The program is supported by a companion mobile app built by BISAG-N under the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY). The application is designed to keep citizens informed about implementation and lets communities stay involved.

How citizens can engage
Individuals can use the app to find nearby Amrit Sarovar projects, monitor their progress, and report concerns or site-specific information. Local authorities and community groups can also use the platform to coordinate maintenance, volunteer activities, and awareness drives that support the long-term preservation of these water resources.
