Game Premise and Storyline
Alex Gordon is a fast-paced 2D platformer from Free Ride Games that sends you to a mysterious island full of ruins and hidden dangers. The adventure begins after a brief animated intro: Alex and his adventurous sister uncover an ancient amulet in a cave, but the island’s old gods are angered and scatter its fragments. Worse, Alex’s sister is taken hostage and will only be released when every shard of the amulet is recovered. Your mission is to explore each stage, overcome obstacles, and reunite the pieces.
Core Gameplay Mechanics
- Run, leap and explore linear stages filled with ledges and gaps.
- Swim through underwater sections and swing from ropes to cross chasms.
- Encounter NPCs along the way — some will give helpful hints, others are hostile.
- Defeat most enemies by stomping on them; contact with foes costs you a life.
The game follows classic platformer conventions: progress through levels, avoid hazards, and gather items to boost your score or open secret routes.
Collectibles and Their Uses
- Stars — open hidden bonus paths and secret areas.
- Coins — contribute to your score at the end of each level.
- Diamonds and crowns — rare treasures that increase your haul.
- Hearts — replenish lost lives, scattered throughout levels.
Pickup Priorities (Quick Strategy)
- Hearts — top priority when you’re low on lives.
- Crowns and diamonds — seek these out for higher completion totals.
- Stars — grab them to unlock alternate routes and extras.
- Coins — collect as many as possible to boost level scores.
Visuals and Character Design
The presentation leans into a retro 2D style: clean sprite work, smooth animations, and backgrounds that emphasize the island’s jungle and ruin motifs. Alex himself is designed as a weathered explorer—confident and ready for adventure—which helps sell the game’s pulp-treasure vibe even if the visuals aren’t cutting-edge.
Difficulty, Level Count and Replay Value
The title includes more than 50 levels that are challenging without being aggravating. Obstacles are thoughtfully placed so players feel rewarded when they clear a stage, rather than frustrated. Between secret routes unlocked by stars and collectible hunting, there’s a good amount of replay value for completionists.
