Quick overview

Adobe Photoshop Touch was a mobile photo editor for smartphones and tablets that preceded Adobe Photoshop Express and Adobe Lightroom. It adapted many familiar desktop Photoshop features—layers, adjustments and advanced selection tools—into a touch-focused interface. Note: the app is no longer distributed via Google Play or the App Store and receives no further updates; copies circulate only as third-party APKs, which carry their own risks.

What the app does

Photoshop Touch lets you combine and edit images using multiple layers, apply professional filters and effects, and add text and brush-based edits. It includes an integrated camera-fill tool to pull camera shots directly into a composition, and can search the web for images via Google Image Search. Finished images can be shared to social networks such as Facebook and Twitter.

Editing toolkit and creative tools

  • Multiple layers for complex composites
  • A library of effects and filters for different looks
  • Brushes for painting and local touch-ups
  • Text insertion and type controls
  • Selection tools (including scribble selection) and a Refine Edge feature to isolate tricky subjects with a fingertip

The app supports editing images up to about 12 megapixels while preserving high output quality. There’s also an inspirational gallery to browse example projects and spark ideas.

Advanced manipulation and special features

Photoshop Touch supported tasks typically reserved for desktop software: blending multiple photos (double exposure), selective adjustments (targeted saturation, brightness, contrast changes), mirror effects, HDR-like tweaks, and tonal-curve editing. These capabilities let you perform detailed retouching and creative compositing on the go.

Interface and usability notes

The interface was redesigned for small screens, aiming to make powerful tools accessible on phones and 7-inch tablets. That said, the in-app help is limited, so new users may face a learning curve and might prefer to consult external tutorials. Working with selections on smaller displays can require zooming frequently because visual markers (like the “marching ants”) are harder to read at low zoom levels.

How it compares to Photoshop Express

While Adobe now officially supports Photoshop Express, many users found Photoshop Touch richer in editing features. Photoshop Touch offered curve controls, selective and HDR-style edits, double exposure and mirror effects, and fuller brush tool support. Photoshop Express, however, provides stronger integration for publishing and printing workflows.

Why enthusiasts still like it

Even though it is discontinued, Photoshop Touch remains popular among mobile artists for its depth of features and ad-free environment. It provides a compact but powerful editing suite that many users prefer for hands-on creative work.

Version highlights

  • Quick access to the last five colors via a new shortcut (drag down on Color)
  • Built-in sharing to Facebook, Twitter and other registered apps
  • Interface tuned for 7-inch devices (minimum 1024×600 resolution)
  • Improved grid presentation for projects, tutorials and image browsing
  • New effects added: Lens Flare and Stamp Pattern
  • Brush behavior smoothed for more natural strokes
  • General bug fixes and stability improvements

Availability and download caution

Adobe no longer distributes Photoshop Touch through official app stores and will not release further updates. Copies may still be found as APKs on third-party websites; if you choose to download one, be cautious about source trustworthiness and device security before installing.
