Quick overview
ABZU is an underwater exploration title where you control a diver navigating a serene yet enigmatic ocean world. You’ll pass through schools of fish, observe predator–prey interactions, and uncover hints of long-buried civilizations as you move through the depths.
Visuals and music
The game’s look is moody and evocative, intentionally minimalist and dreamlike. Its art direction echoes the style of other well-known meditative games — not surprising given the involvement of a Journey art director — and the experience is elevated by a sweeping orchestral soundtrack that complements the visuals.
How the game feels to play
Swimming is the core mechanic and it’s deliberately simple and satisfying; most of your time will be spent gliding through water and watching the world around you. There are occasional puzzles and environmental dangers, but they function as light obstacles rather than demanding tests of skill. The structure is mostly linear, encouraging observation and discovery over complex problem solving.
Difficulty and length
ABZU leans toward a gentle, contemplative pace. It’s crafted for atmosphere and mood rather than extended playtime or intense challenge. If you want an emotionally resonant, short-to-medium experience, it fits well; if you’re after a marathon, difficult adventure that will occupy dozens of hours, it may leave you wanting more.
