Overview of the solution
AadhaarBAS is an attendance application built specifically for government staff in India. Introduced as part of the Digital India drive in 2014, it was created to improve on-time reporting and visibility of attendance records across registered personnel. Access to the tool is restricted so that only authorized government employees can record their daily presence.
How employees mark their presence
Registered users record attendance each workday through the app. The system has moved toward a largely touchless flow: employees simply present their face to a compatible device and the app verifies identity and logs the entry. The face-based check-in typically completes within 2–3 seconds, making the process fast and convenient.
Supported biometric methods
- Face-based Aadhaar authentication (current primary method)
- Iris scanning (earlier option)
- Fingerprint verification (initially supported)
Security, data and infrastructure
Attendance validation and matching are performed against UIDAI’s Central Identities Data Repository (CIDR), ensuring identity verification uses the authoritative Aadhaar records. The service is designed to operate within the Indian IP framework and follow required security practices so attendance management remains efficient, auditable, and protected.
