Hi,
results from switching to UTF-8:
a) locale charmap: UTF-8
b) encodings in java env: UTF-8
Now i had the problem, that my test file with german umlaut in filename is not in the backup (file not found?)
But now both 7.1 and 7.1.2 behave the same, file with umlaut is missing. :-(((
Finally I found convmv to convert all my filenames from 8859-15 to utf-8, now everything is fine.

Hi,
1) added log file from areca
2) locale charmap tells me 8859-15
3) encodings are 8859-15
... oops
Switching with dpkg-reconfigure locales to utf-8,
I will tell the results.

v7.1 working good
v7.1.2 stops backup with: ERROR - Error reading attributes for /home/dummy/รครครค
(yes, i created such a file for testing)
My system is a debian/squeeze
and I'm using java runtime from sun 6build14
