I was a Brief user until yesterday, when I switched to Liferea. However, Brief has some usability advantages that Liferea doesn't offer yet; so I will describe here what I miss.
If you ask liferea to display the "Unread" folder in combined view, it will mark all messages as read, and there is no way to mark only single ones. This is very annoying if you are halfway through the unread messages...
