Sorry, it's not a bug, "code.page" was set to 0. I've set it to 932 and now it works.
Still I think, that it is very unexpected behavior. I think SciTE should automatically choose the correct "code.page" setting depending on the OS settings. I mean Notepad and Vim do it automatically.

I use Scite 2.01 on Windows XP. The setting for non-unicode programs is Japanese.
When I open a file with Japanese text, that is saved in ANSI encoding by Notepad, it displays right, but when I move the cursor in a word it takes two key presses to move through a character and the character is displayed as two characters, a box followed by an ASCII character.
