Hi Daniel, If the USB drive is formatted with a filesystem that Redo recognizes, then it should be listed as an option to save the backup to. Formatting the drive as a standard NTFS, FAT, or EXT4 filesystem should work fine!
Hi Gerry, Yes, this is the purpose of Redo, and most people find that it works very well. But as with any other open source tool, we can't guarantee that it will work flawlessly on your system -- so we recommend creating a backup and verifying it first, and then if you have a second (blank) SSD, you can replace your current one and restore the image to it to make sure the backup worked as expected!
Hi William, Redo is not based on Ubuntu, so testing Ubuntu doesn't help much. Have you tried running Debian 10 live on this machine? This is the base for Redo and if your hardware is supported by it then we need to dig a little deeper and find out why. However, if your hardware is not supported by Debian, there isn't much we can do other than recommend an older version (2.0 series, based on Debian 9) for now.
If Clonezilla is altering the UUIDs or some other data in some way, we should be able to do the same using open source tools. We do not currently have any information on what is being changed, or how to overcome this. Having said that, Redo is not designed to restore to different hardware for this very reason: it may or may not work when restoring to other systems (though it seems to work for most users).
A few important questions so we can help: Which version are you using? Are you restoring to the exact same machine, or a different system? Are you using the first option and restoring all partitions, or are you trying to restore using the second option?

Hi Andy, Thanks for the input. Internally, we had been working on moving to a web-based version of the utility (to abandon Perl) for years, but the rough builds, though usable internally for testing, never quite made it to a level that warranted an official release. The COVID schedule led to the spare time needed for that final push. Congratulations on your new project!
Looks great! Congrats on the image explorer. I am sure this will be a very helpful feature!
