I would love to see Rosetta running on Boincoid. There's indeed that wrapping procedure needed, and also packaging up the client in a convenient and standalone way. Some people are working on this, but time frames are unknown... Cheers, Oded.

Andy, managing to run under the latest SDK is wonderful! To support the development, please document what you did, or even better fix the code in the CVS. We will happily grant developer permissions if you want to submit code. As for porting Rosetta - we did this crazy marathon to port 40+ thousand lines of code from C++ to Java (BOINC + SETI). That was our feat and it is rightfully...

That great news! was this code developed independently of Boincoid, or are you actually refering to the Boincoid code? And I want to clarify about Rosetta - David Baker, Alan Yen and David Kim all of Washington University, were very helpful and responsive on this matter, and have given us access to the code. So that's part settled. As for porting to Java - Trying the forums can't hurt... :)

Yes, you found the big caveat of the Boincoid design - to support full cross-"platformity", every application needs to be ported to Java. We've done this only for SETI, and recently the Rosetta team have helped and offered their (not usually open) code for porting to Java, in order to support Boincoid. Alas, the porting requires a lot of work, and no one has yet taken the challenge.

  • Followup: RE: Awesome app idea - cannot get it running!

Hi Andy, thanks for not giving up on making it work :) Judging by the dates, we've used code much earlier than 1.5, so indeed it sounds like the cause of many problems. We've used the SDK's that were close to the Android announcement date, so they're very primal. The above mentioned problem could be just another symptom of the old SDK. I tried to figure it out, but to no avail. AFAICR...

Boincoid was written from scratch porting BOINC to Java. I can't vouch for this being the best decision, but please understand we were limited in time, and with no prior experience in the grid computing, so we did what we could. We were kind of hoping to make everything work, and think about it later (never a good design) - because in order to convince people this could work, we wanted a POC.

Hi, 1. The project is alive, but dormant. Once we committed what we had to the Google Andoird contest we had to get back to our studies, so no major advancement has been made since. There is interest from the community, and one programmer already joined the task force, and another is now asking about it. The vision for Boincoid is outstanding, so I definetely hope the project has more to...
