KVPM is a nice tool but it needs an icon to really shine in the menu. Maybe you should request an Oxygen icon at http://techbase.kde.org/Projects/Oxygen/Missing_Icons and add a hicolor one from another package (like gparted).

The same happens with Kubuntu (Feisty, python-wxgtk 2.6.3.2.1.5ubuntu6). Back to 4.0.4 and it works fine.
