I've looked deeper into the problem, and it appears that the socket is timing out because the device I'm talking to doesn't understand the request:
Client request (hex): 00 00 00 00 00 06 00 02 84 FC 00 01
The client sends this sequence 4 times before giving up.
As far as I know, there is no modbus function 0, so what is jamod doing?.
