it seems like the same problem that was happening on solaris.
there is a thread about sesman and solaris 10 with a patch that seems to fix this misbehaviour (which is caused by some strange signal handling).
could you try that?
otherwise can you try to explicitly kill the defunct sessvc process and see if it helps?.

this is because sesman cleans all the environment variables before running Xvnc, and sets just some basic ones (like PATH) to start Xvnc.
otherwise Xvnc would have the same environment as sesman, which runs as root.
the only workaround is to patch sesman to add the variable that you need. you can also try adding the variable to startwm.sh.

i've recompiled xrdp on my slack11 machine but unfortunately I'm not able to reproduce the problem.
can you try to modify startwm.sh and leave only the rows that start xterm? (so we can see if it's a problem with the wm or something else)
