The purpose of the project browser is to view the embedded project previews and to search the tags. It is not a general purpose file/picture browser. There are other programs dedicated to photo management. ImagePlay is not one of them. As such I see no reason to spin-off the project browser into something it wasn't designed for.
As far as acting as a bridge to photoshop. It would be nice if...

Actually this makes everything more complex and harder for the user. Not to mention it dramatically increases the overall instal size.
The built in update check is minimal and does the job. Besides, people can always check the homepage for new versions if they don't like it being done automatically.

I also agree that RB 5.5 is the best version to date. The only reason to use RB2007 is for Intel compiles.
MBS is not open source so it will not be used. Personally I detest the use of plugins as they just add dependancies and complexity. That being said, if you know of an open source plugin or other means by which to dramatically increase the effects performance, let me know.
