It seems that Stellarium tries to run itself in very-idle thread priority. Which may be fine in many cases, but it really doesn't play nice if there's something running in the background (and those of us who participate in distributed computing projects always have something running). I couldn't figure out why I was getting only 2fps on my Q6600/8400GS system. Then I paused Prime95 and it shot...
