This is not a bug, it's a feature :)
By default SynWeb using XHtml (simple) validation (HtmlVersion=shvXHtml10Transitional), and in XML/XHtml attributes without values are not peritted.
You need to change highlighter options (or 'engine' options) to: SynWebHtml1.Options.HtmlVersion := shvHtml10Transitional (or any other version you want).

Comment just for calrification, for 'future' readers.
Result MUST be always initialized for every type (even for managed/dynamic types like String, Interfface, Variant, etc)
