We set all our checkstyle rules to errors. warnings have been useless on the past 3 teams as no one fixes warnings. The deal with errors though is they can be overwhelming. In our build.xml file, for legacy systems, we allow a max errors number. we would love to specify a max errors for the checkstyle eclipse plugin and the plugin only shows RANDOMLY errors above the max. ie. Is there a way for me to tell checkstyle that the configuration for all projects is in bldfiles/checkstyleConfig.xml? Then each project can have a slightly different config. Rather than have a global one. Each project manages the rules that are errors separately as some projects are legacy and some are 1.0 so they are much cleaner thanks to checkstyle.

I totally agree here!!!!! I can't seem to get it to reload from the filesystem and the dang plugin is resetting all my severity's to warning which is damn annoying.

Trhough 5.0.2 in eclipse plugin, add about 10 plugins and set all severity's to error including TreeWalker and Checker, then save changes, save preferences, then reopen the preferences page, then reopen configure the file and most are all set back to warning...this is very annoying as we cannot use the eclipse plugin to edit the file. worse yet, we cannot make changes manually as the plugin...
