I realize that I'm answering this question rather late, but it may also be helpful if someone else with a similar question sees my answer.
Legally, the SyncDocs server is under the GPL, so any software that includes the source code for it must also be under the GPL.

We have been receiving reports that Mac OS X 10.6 and 10.6.1 have firewall issues that prevent connectivity. Your report is the first one that references a problem with the firewall off. We have submitted a bug to Apple, they have contacted us, and we are working with them to resolve the issue.
