I am using the "EPE Toolkit mk3" [1] from "Everyday Practical Electronics" magazine October 2001. I have the kit version supplied by Magenta Electronics Ltd [2]. I don't suppose that many people are still using this board!

I have indeed been able to set the configuration I need from the GUI, and also test the connections with the check boxes. Excellent! The configuration has also turned up in ~/.kde/share/config/piklabrc as you suggested.
Unfortunately, I am only able to connect to and read the PIC by manually resetting the PIC just before I issue the "Connect" and "Read"...

I am running piklab version 0.14.5 on Debian Etch.
I want to use piklab-prog with a parallel port programmer with these connections:
D0 - write data
D1 - clock
D4 - MCLR
ACK - read data
I tried using the "direct" programmer on /dev/parport0 as user root:
# piklab-prog --device 16F84A -c connect --programmer direct

This is how it works in Linux.
1. Make sure that you have installed Python and GPASM.
2. Download and unpack the tarball.
$ tar -xzvf Pyastra-0.0.4.1.tar.gz
3. Change to the directory created by unpacking the tarball.
$ cd Pyastra-0.0.4.1
4. Read the README.txt and INSTALL.txt files.
5. Switch user to root.
$ su
6. Use the python "setup" script to install...

Obvious once I had twigged. I was entering the scp command
in the sourceforge shell when I should have used the local
shell.

I have posted my ssh key and I can log in OK. I cannot
copy a file with scp - it times out. Permissions on the
file are -rw-r--r--. Can you suggest what I am doing wrong?
