I also have this problem on Fedora 11 with gphoto2-2.4.5-1.fc11.x86_64. Copying from http://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=586743:
I have two camera devices: One is a Fuji F200EXR that I plug into a USB port (usb:001,011). The other is a flash card from a Canon camera, which I plug into a USB card reader (usb:001,012).
-- with Canon and Fuji devices attached, both listings show the Canon...

Do rfcomm /dev/ttyWhatever nodes not get created? Should this be handled at a lower level?

Sounds nifty! It would have to be implemented in an optional way, so that moserial still compiled on gtk-but-not-gnome systems.
I don't have any fancy bluetooth gadgetry, so someone else will need to make this happen...
