Some people have asked if the project is still alive. The answer is a definite yes.
We have a new sponsor in the shape of Enterprise Data Safe Limited (Web site: www.enterprisedatasafe.net), who allow me to work on the project, but don't provide monetary support, so any donations are still welcome ;).
The reason there have been no releases in a while is because there aren't any reported...

I've written some dictionary implementations which are 4 to 5 times faster than the HashMap class during lookups. They do consume 2 to 3 times as much memory, but it's the old speed -v- memory tradeoff that I'm sure we're all old enough to make for ourselves.
The source code and a PDF of some timings is available from http://www.alsutton.com/jazzy_dictionary_classes.html
Comments welcomed.

The one thing I'm going to take away from this discussion is how your prioritise your systems (including your mirrors) over the security of all of your users.
There have been a few encouraging posts which indicated a willingness towards protecting users against misconfigured systems, but it seems the majority of the posts seem to show that the commonly held beleif is that you can put out...

Luca: If they use wget, and you have never said they should, then block it, but you need to block it in such a way which will not stop them using the methods come as part of the software (e.g. filtering by HTTP Agent as opposed to just blocking the IP address entirely).
Steve: I see where your comming from, but I'm looking from a different angle. From what you've said you seem to be looking...

<b>Luca</b>: Do you have code to store the last time freshclam executed and each run check that the previous execution time is a reasonable distance in the past from the current time?
I understand the code handles the configuration file for the freshclam config, but putting freshclam into crontab is also part of configuring the program (if the program can be run in that manner...

Luca, it looks like you're already not listening, juergen seems to have grasped what I'm trying to point out. I've been involved in software development for over a decade for a large variety of companies ranging from some of the top 10 global banks down to small web consultancies, so I'm basing my comments on real world experience.
If you allow a user to do something you have to put up with...

To answer the two main topics;
1) If I say that, for free, I will provide a fence to keep out intruders from your property, and then I knowingly stop providing the fence without DIRECTLY telling you, I have broken a verbal contract, and thus I am liable. This argument carries over into software, and as I have never seen any licence during download, compilation, install, and execution (let...
