Thank you for the explanation. In the first run I used sync instead of sync -R because I deleted some files (aka moved them to excluded folders for safety, I have one in each drive for this exact purpuse) and renamed the snapraid.content for backup, so snapraid just assumed the parity was not existent and started from stratch. The 2nd sync is still at 50%, the rig is not that fast but as long as it works without problems it's good enough for me ;)

Thank you for the help. 1st parity cycle is done and everything went fine, I've just added the 2nd drive to the config file and started the 2nd run. One thing I've noticed: I use DriveGleam to show HDDs activity on the system tray, the 1st run showed read activity on the data drives and write activity on the parity drive as expected, but the 2nd run is showing write activity to both parity drives. Is the 1st parity drive being written with the same data that was already there? I'm asking because...

Thanks for the suggestion, but I'm in Europe and all those drives add 45$ in postage... I usually prefer buying in person, it's easier to return in case of any drive problems, but I'll take a look on ebay later, maybe I'll find some good deals from trusted sellers.

I prefer the safer route, it will probably take twice the time but it's no hassle editing a couple of lines in a file and running an extra command. I only need a confirmation if the steps i mentioned are the correct ones. I started using SnapRAID with 4x 1TB data + 1TB parity, currently I'm at 3x 1TB + 3x 2TB data + 2x 2TB parity, and my next step will eventually be 7x2TB data + 2x2TB parity. Since my cash flow has always been low, only two of the 1TB drives were bought in a store, all the others...

It's not a matter of how long it takes to resync, but a matter of the safest way to resync. Deleting the entire parity will leave all data unprotected, and I'll only do that as a last resort. According to Hard Disk Sentinel, 2 data drives are at 99% health (1 bad sector each), the other 6 drives are at 100% health. I'm currently scrubbing the drives to make sure everything is alright before doing anything else, the tower has been disconnected in the last month or so because it was missing a sATA...

I currently have a mix of 6x 1TB/2TB data drives and 2x 2TB parity drives. Because of constantly adding/moving/deleting files on the data drives, the parity files filled up the 2TB drives. Since SnapRAID doesn't support defrag/shrink (yet?), I'm considering doing this: Remove the 2nd parity drive from the config file Run snapraid sync, so 2nd parity drive is discarded from the set Create a new parity file using the 2nd parity drive (now empty), keeping the 1st parity drive and original snapraid.content...

Tried that and didn't work. What did work (for now) was uninstalling 7-zip, rebooting,...
