Indeed, the accidental deletion is a worry. However, people who would use the proposed feature would inherently have a copy of the file somewhere else (the file they temporarily used to populate the local copy). Perhaps making the local file read-only to the user would help? In this manner, the user would not be adding new entries that could potentially be lost through file deletion? Sync is a convenient feature, but it has the downside that as a user you have to grant network access to the app....
