After a simple chown -R root:root .sl in /usr/jed/lib, things seem improved. Thankfully.
After seeing work perfectly on Debian 10, on Debian 9 / LMDE 3 it gives the same as the above, but none of the resolutions improves things. Unlike on Debian 10, grief does compile, but the resulting program doesn't run well. I want this to work. So I did the preparse command and it returned loading /usr/jed/lib/site.sl loading /usr/jed/lib/os.sl loading /usr/jed/lib/menus.sl loading /usr/jed/lib/preparse.sl loading /usr/jed/lib/bytecomp.sl /usr/jed/lib/site.slc: unable to open Traceback: byte_compile_file...
Just wanted to say thanks a tonne!!!! I tried Kinesics editor, it fails on my Debian 10 console, the windows versions are not bad. $275 for Crisp seemed way too much. Couldn't find my Epsilon installation disks from a long time ago. Grief was hard to even get compiled, but struggled with the console. But your work is great, console and X versions work perfectly, and I finally have an editor in my console that is fast and familiar.

Josso 2.4.0 is now running well. I tried to follow the quick start, but it doesn't...
Ok, some progress, I took the 2.4.0 jar and just ran it, it turns out to be the installer....
I came across this product and from reading stuff it seems that JOSSO2 seems worth...
