After loading version 0.90 on a SuSE 8.0 - System I
used alsaconf to configure my integrated
VIA-8233-Soundcard (Gigabyte board GA-7VTXE+).
Alsaconf reports that it succeeds in configuring the
soundcard, but when alsaconf tries to play the
sample-sounds, I get the following error messages in
/var/log/messages:
- schnipp -

This bug also affects me with a DFI AD73Pro motherboard. The
VIA-8233 soundcard is on this board.

I have the basically the same problem with RedHat 7.2 and an
MSI KT3 Ultra (MS-6380E v1.0) motherboard, which says it has
the VIA Apollo KT333 & VT8233A chipsets. I'm using
alsa-driver-0.9.0rc1. Here are the messages I get:
On modprobe snd-via8233.o (or maybe audunmute, which calls
amixer):
In /var/log/messages:
Jun 2 10:13:16 localhost kernel: PCI: Setting latency timer
of device 00:11.5 to 64
On aplay:
In xterm:
% aplay ~/bark.wav
Playing WAVE '/home/purtill/bark.wav' : Unsigned 8 bit, Rate
8000 Hz, Mono
ALSA lib pcm_hw.c:411:(snd_pcm_hw_drain)
SNDRV_PCM_IOCTL_DRAIN failed: Input/output error

../alsa-kernel/core/pcm_lib.c:177: BUG: stream = 0, pos =

And here's a snip from /proc/pci:

IRQ 5.

The audio works with OSS and in Windows XP.

Followup: As indicated on the supported chips page, I
downloaded ALSA from CVS on June 8th, and compiled and
installed it, and sound now works on my machine (RedHat 7.2
and an MSI KT3 Ultra (MS-6380E v1.0) motherboard, which says
it has the VIA Apollo KT333 & VT8233A chipsets). Thank you!!
