GTK Interface is not resizable

I use 2 monitors and the GTK interface is not usable
with 2 monitors as it takes up both monitors. I cannot
resize the main window such that I can use one monitor.
This is especially important because the dialogs will
pop up between the 2 monitors and thus be virtually
unreadable.

Fedora Core 2 on Pentium 4 laptop with 2 monitors using
an NVidia card. Linux 2.4.25., slashem-0.0.7E6F2
