Hello,

This problem has emerged in the nedit editor v. 5.5
compiled with lesstif v. 0.94.4 which uses tabbed
editing (more windows opened as tabs). There seems to
be a problem when using tabbed windows with non-English
locale.

This bug was originally reported against the nedit
package in Debian and the whole report including the
software's version information is available at

http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=340780

I am using the Slovak locale (sk_SK.ISO8859-2). The
corresponding keyboard layout also contains the
so-called dead keys which are used to write some
composite national characters that are not directly
defined on the keyboard layout.

If a new tab is opened, the dead keys do not work in
that tab - they are completely ignored as if they were
not typed in. The remaining national characters that
are available on the keyboard are usable without
problems, just the dead keys stop working in that tab.

Surprisingly, the dead keys work in every first tab in
a nedit window. In other words, the dead keys work in
every new nedit window but they are ignored in any
subsequently opened tab.

It seems to me that if a new window is opened then the
locale is initialized properly, however, it is not done
when a new tab is opened. Therefore the first tab in a
new window accepts the dead keys but any other tabs in
any window do not accept them.

The nedit compiled with Motif does not exhibit this
symptoms, therefore the nedit package maintainer
suggested reporting this bug against lesstif.

I will be glad to provide more info if needed.

Regards,
Peter
