tmux is a "terminal multiplexer", it enables a number of terminals (or windows) to be accessed and controlled from a single terminal. tmux is intended to be a simple, modern, BSD-licensed alternative to programs such as GNU screen.
One of the cleanest projects I've ever seen. Excellent code base to learn and contribute to. Way better than GNU screen. Thoroughly recommended to anyone who believes multiple xterms or tabbed terminals are a good way to work.
I've been using this for months now instead of GNU screen and have been very pleased. Thanks guys!
I started using screen a couple of years ago, and started scripting and hacking it almost immediately, but screen isn't very well suited for that. And now I've found tmux -- which seems to be the screen I've always wanted. (*And* it can split my screen vertically!)
