Same here. Running the program does nothing; it just returns immediately. No error messages sent to a command window if you're launching it from one either.

I'm having the same problem. The portable app does nothing and quits instantly. I'm running XP.

Startup Manager has been working well for me for some time. However I temporarily stopped userinit.exe by mistake, result is a windows install that is stuck in a logon loop. Is there any way to unstop this file? I do not know what Startup Manager does to the file. Help would be useful.

I'm glad it's fixed. But I have to disappoint you, I don't know a good offline registry editor, you might be able to find one on sourceforge though :)
Although this is a Windows project, I'm more of a Linux guy...

Hello, now I'm happy to tell that my problem is fixed.

Hi,
As I also mentioned in the tracker item, you could try to put the userinit entry back into place using an offline registry editor from within another operating system. But I haven't used such a tool myself yet.

Understand userinit.exe preventing XP from boot up in both normal and safe mode. When I tryed to use Puppy Linux from CD Rom to boot with, it told me that it was some problems with userinit.exe and Linux could'nt load into memory Ram...

Forgot to say that I been trying all boot alternatives as well safe boot without success with F8. Result is exactly the same as with normal boot.
