^summary ...when it's checked. All mp4 videos suffer and most mkv's, so I guess the h264 codec is the matter.
NO MATTER if any frame skip is really needed (system performance is ok), the video either
-hangs at a single frame, but the sound is still going on after first attempt of seeking.
-hangs at black screen, same with sound.
-hangs, no sound either.
-hangs at the start of playback.

We need this option to lower the resolution when playing h264 movie on slow computer.

Decode at lower resolutions. Low resolution decoding is not supported by all codecs, and it will often result in ugly artifacts. This is not a bug, but a side effect of not decoding at full resolution.
0: disabled
1: 1/2 resolution
2: 1/4 resolution
3: 1/8 resolution.

For my case, it's ok now and related to Cairo-Dock, see that workaround http://smplayer.berlios.de/forums/viewtopic.php?id=1413.

The problem appears to be that the -hr-mp3-seek flag is apparently not being set. Perhaps this should be enabled by default by smplayer when playing a VBR mp3?.
