  • sbackup not restoring

I am trying to restore a backup I made recently but all I get is a folder named tmpJ00F37 in the destination folder. I ran sbackup on a friends machine and restored the /home folder completely. I don't understand why I cannot restore my /home folder. I ran: sudo srestore.py /media/disk/2009-12-23_12.06.30.198497.charlie-desktop.ful /home/prisca [sudo] password for charlie...

  • Comment: One GUI for everything: Backup, Restore, Status display

I agree a clean, simple, straightforward GUI with one or two nice additions could take SBackup into a "must have" application. Great stuff. Keep it simple.

  • Showing activity

Sbackup graet but (i) it needs to be able to really "Backup Now" when that is what you ask it to do, rather than going off and starting up a background job that gets executed when it feels like it. It is sometimes imperative to run "NOW". It shouldn't be too difficult to make that an option; (ii) It needs to present an icon to notify when it is active. This is fairly common for other...

  • Amazon S3 storage

http://aws.amazon.com/s3/ Has anyone experience of using this with say simple backup? I can see that it is possible to use a remote directory (SSH or FTP) in simple backup. It is not obvious if amazon S3 will accept SSH. For backing up a standalone machine this looks like a very cheap approach to high quality backup. I am wondering how I do it in practice. Are there any known step by step...

  • Unsuccessful backup to NTFS if exceeds 4Gb.

If backing up to a NTFS drive, doesn't inform the user that the maximum size of the backup cannot exceed 4GB. I backed up a 20GB file system, it did not indicate to user that it hadn't been able to backup successfully. Perhaps the backup file could be spread over several files (e.g. files.tgz, files_1.tgz, etc.)

  • Bandwidth limiting for uploads

I'd like to have bandwidth limiting for remote backups. I can't have this box do a 10GB upload on me with no limits.
