This is an old bug, and please forgive us for never realizing it had been entered here.
This problem may have been addressed and should be found to have been fixed in the latest version.
Is the problem described within the calendar (ComCal) application, or the news (NewsDB) application?.

When you try to use an apostophe in the title of topics
it malforms the title. It says everything is fine, but
it puts a /' in the field instead of an '
This is a major problem as conjunctions are a major
part of speech to be left out of titles, especially
since without them things end up sounding exceptionally
formal which is often not a good thing.
