It cannot do everything that the excel plugin can do - but it can do most critical functions. Combined with the web client, and ETL server, you don't need excel at all - at least I have not encountered a situation that requires excel.
There is no manual, so best thing to do is post your specific question to this forum, or even the Palo forum for third-party apps.

I'm just trying to figure out the basics of how to use palooca. I am using the palo manual, but the interface is slightly different, so there are things I can't figure out how to do. I can't find any documentation for how to use palooca anywhere! Any suggestions?.

I can give it a shot, but I wouldn't hold my breath ... the 1.1.0 release was more than a year ago so my build environment also did change in the meantime. I will see if I can get a test environment with that ubuntu release up and running.

Corporately we use ubuntu's OOo 2.4 with Sun JRE 1.6. The original palooca extension on sourceforge works very well (very rarely it will crash on exit of SS) with this setup.
If you could provide an OOo 2.4 build on trunk that would be awesome, because somehow your builds are more stable.

Which OOo do you use? The vanilla OOo or the one shipped with Ubuntu? As far as I know ubuntu ships with a modified version of OOo that is not completely compatible with all extensions. The same goes for Java. I had best results with my extensions when using the vanilla OOo and the Sun Java Runtime 1.6.

aha.. I had only used the 2.4 libs and not sdk. I tried instead on ubuntu hardy (netbeans, nb oo plugin, oo 2.4 + 2.4 sdk), and was able to successfully build an oxt. But the thing still crashes everytime on closing the spreadsheet.
My OO 3.0 build of trunk on jaunty works great.. no crash on exit.

Did you also use the 2.4 SDK or only the 2.4 OOo libs? I think if you build it completely for 2.4 it should (still) work.

I built Palooca trunk on Ubuntu Jaunty (OO 3.0) with OO 2.4 libs copied from ubuntu Hardy.
The plugin works on OO 3.0 and OO 2.4 - but every time now, after using Palooca in SS, and exiting, it crashes when closing SS.
Is there a trick to building a "2.4" build?
Official 1.1.0 release of Palooca does not crash 2.4.
Thanks,
-Bob.

I confirmed that this bug is fixed in trunk, but it does exist in the 1.1.0 release of the extension.. the one that is available for download - the one everyone is using ;)

I was using the 1 _ 1 _ 0 tag.. not latest trunk.. since the latest released extension is 1.1. I will try against trunk.
