This is a great alternative to Microsoft Office. I have been using it for years and do all of my school work for uni with it.
It is free, easy to use, clean, and efficient.
The ability to save with Writer as .doc files is very handy for sharing documents. I don't think I will be switching to any other product, even if I were to receive MS Office for free.

Lo uso da molti anni e mi sono sempre trovato bene. Il progetto ha sempre garantito la compatibilità con l'evoluzione dei sistemi operativi.

I have enjoyed this program since retirement. It has 95% of the familiar features Microsoft Office offers, oh they may take time to find but they are their and easy to use once found. Being an ex-software minipulater I find this exceptional. Although missing some features it is a great substitute for Office 365.

I've used this software for years and rely in it. However as of today (7-20-23) the software crashes every time I try to open a spreadsheet. I updated to v4.1.14 (from 4.1.13) and it does the same thing. What happened?Reply from Apache OpenOffice

Apache OpenOffice, a free and open-source office suite, includes software for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, and databases. It is compatible with Microsoft Office file formats and can be used on a variety of operating systems, including Windows, macOS, and Linux. The cost of Apache OpenOffice is one of its main advantages. Because it is open-source software that can be downloaded and used for free, it is a great alternative to paid office suites like Microsoft Office. Despite being free, Apache OpenOffice is a powerful office suite that offers many of the same features as Microsoft Office or other commercial software. Additionally, Apache OpenOffice is extremely adaptable. The product can be customized to meet the specific needs of customers by adding enhancements and formats. In addition, Apache OpenOffice has a large and active community of users and developers who are constantly working to improve the software and add more features. Another advantage of Apache OpenOffice is its similarity across stages. The software is compatible with a lot of different operating systems, which can be helpful for people who have to work together with people who use different operating systems or who have to collaborate with people who use different operating systems. Having said that, it is essential to keep in mind that Apache OpenOffice has come under fire in recent times for not being developed or updated. Some users have reported bugs and compatibility issues with newer operating systems. Moreover, the item's UI ought to be noticeable as out of date stood out from a part of its opponents. In general, Apache OpenOffice is a powerful office suite that is affordable and offers many of the same features as paid software. It is an extraordinary device for understudies, experts, and people who need to deal with different working frameworks because of its adaptability and cross-stage similarity. In contrast, users ought to be aware of its lack of development and compatibility issues.

I liked using OpenOffice to write letters.

Wonderful program!!!! Thanks to all and those highly skilled individuals who worked so hard to putting these programs together and offering it to all of us to use.

I am not terribly experienced doing a lot of things that OpenOffice I can do. I don't know much about the way to give commands to get a spreadsheet to do what I want. However, other than that, I love this app and use it about once a week, if not more. I want to thank you all for providing it to use. I know it takes a lot of work and it is much appreciated.

I have been using Open Office since 2006 and I can't remember a problem that I have ever had with it -- which is more that I can say for Microsoft Office. I will never understand why government agencies and large corporations spend tens (maybe hundreds) of thousands of dollars every year with Microsoft on updates and new versions to keep Windows and Office operating. And of course they also spend at least again that much on employing tech people to try and keep those Microsoft products operational - what a joke. Open Office has never failed me - it's never crashed, never froze, never lacked a feature that I needed, never lacked community support to explain how to do something, I love it! And it is completely compatible with those pitiable people who have MS Office. I will never understand why anyone would spend money with MS for an inferior product, Open Office is more user friendly, more reliable, and of course a lot less expensive!

Been using it for years; great for opening/creating documents and spreadsheets. Please keep up the great work, OO team!!

I've been using Apache OpenOffice for quite a few years now and find it to be very impressive in terms of its intuitive GUI (very similar to MS Office) and the scope of features available. I especially like the ability to save text documents etc in formats compatible with MS. Very handy for sharing via Dropbox, etc. Oh, and for free! What's not to like?

Top text software. I am very grateful that I got it, especially for free.

Excelent Soft, Free, Open Source!

So far everything has always been perfect, I have nothing to say. - yet I have been a loyal customer/user for nearly 22 years.

I've written large (10,000 lines+) applications in OpenOffice BASE in the past 11 years using HSQL split databases. I've also written graphic applications for drawing curves on CDC templates all for pediatric medical clinics. I can't give enough kudos to the OpenOffice team for an office system that is second to NONE!

Amazing job on this Office productivity software. I have not found anything that I couldn't do before. Everyone I show this program to also agrees with me.

My school couldn't give us all MS office, so this software carried me through quarantine.

I move from MicrosofOffice to Apache OpenOffice since lots of my friends suggested it. The software is great, the features are confuse at first but after 1 hours, i can basiclly understand most of them, they're awsome. The design, of cause, it feel is a bit "old style," i guess. I suggest some simple, black-white (or maybe 3 color combination) , clean icons theme for some users like me, they won't cause too much distractive form their color and shapes designs. The simple designs won't let them 'pop up' too much and take all the attention and concentration from the writter.Reply from Apache OpenOffice

Sometimes a bit buggy, but I don't see why you would pay for Microsoft Office. I'm glad this software exists.

Difficult learning curve when transferring from Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) to OpenOffice, but persistence pays off. It has taken a few months for this 80 year-old to make the conversion. Now feeling comfortable.

AOO 4.1.9 was released on February 7, 2021 and 4.1.10-RC1 is on the way. Apache OpenOffice is still actively developed – cf. the mailing list for developers: www.mail-archive.com/dev@openoffice.apache.org/ – they just opened a repository for 4.2.0-dev3. As long as LibreOffice won't fix its font kerning in page view on Linux and macOS, I will stick to Apache OpenOffice. On Linux, I particularly like that AOO doesn't use Qt or Gtk but its own toolkit – this makes AOO less quirky than LO.

Thanks to Apache OpenOffice I'm now able to say 'f*** off Bill Gates!!' He can no longer exploit me and it feels great

Works great and is free.

Apache OpenOffice 4.1.7 has way better font rendering than LibreOffice 6.4.3 – no matter if on Linux, macOS or Windows 10. LO messes up the kerning and as soon as you zoom the document, it gets even worse – not so with AOO. AOO supports even ClearType. I also like that the developers didn't change the menus. I used StarOffice and OpenOffice.org since it was available for free – thus mor than 20 years. Moving items in the menus from one place to another and renaming things just annoys me. What I would change in AOO for Linux is the scaling option: in AOO 4.1.7 the interface can be scaled only up to 130 %. As I have a HiDPI display, it would be fine if AOO could be scaled at least up to 200 % using the settings menu.

I've been having problems putting the English version on. If I type a letter every word needs to be spellchecked like I'm in a Spanish version.
