This application will not work without an update to the source, but when you do, it's great. To fix the authentication issues problem loading comments, download the latest source. Go to Engine subproject, edit Utils.cs, in the Create Function, remark out the 2nd last two cookies. That is, remove ljmastersession and ljloggedin. Also, if you're upgrading to a newer version of VS, you may have to also remove the dependency to WindowsFormsPlugins from WindowsForms (the main project) because of their dependence on legacy AgentControl. I did this after upgrading to 2015 and everything worked great. It will run without the plugins. If you need the plug-ins, once you've got an archive, you should be able to run the original version.

Being able to archive old entries has suddenly become far more pressing. Sync indicates 112 new entries to download, but when it tries to execute the download, I get the following error message. ljArchive Error: System.Xml.XmlException: 'doctype' is an unexpected token. The expected token is 'DOCTYPE'. LJ seems to change API and ljArchive is not aware of it. Broken since long time and only syncs posts (comments fail, xml exception). Also fails to make initial sync of large journals (xml exception). Unmaintained

LiveJournal has changed something in their API protocol. And now instead of downloading comments ljArchives receives an HTML page with login prompt. This is unexpected answer and that's why comments sync fails

Just wondering if anyone has found a fix or replacement for ljarchive, which times out with a sync error during the "comments update"? This is probably because of something LJ did to their servers after the DDoS attack earlier this year.

ljArchive *was* useful. Unfortunately, the developer is no longer maintaining it; see http://fawx.com/projects/ , where he lists it under "Older Projects: I wrote these a long time ago, and though they might still be useful, I no longer maintain them." The latest release, 0.9.7, was made on 2006-03-22 -- almost five years ago.
