L_Pp Project
_________________________________________________________________________ __ _

L_Pa is a new project aimed at vastly improving wine-enabled Windows VST/ASIO applications to run performant, more seamless/smooth, better control / scheduling and integration within a Gnu/Linux environment. It's wine + superior multi-thredding/handling of (RT) priorities, stability improvments, bug fixes, other new features *not available in 'upstream' wine (yet?)*, _targeting_ proaudio users *plus* a (matching) high performance RT kernel tailored for proaudio, with some additional options.

Requirements/things you should have;

some skill.. (until it is properly packaged, for Xyz)

1. l_Pa-kernel
2. l_Pa-Wine
3. Jack2/multilib is fully tested, haven't tried jack1 (don't see a problem though)
4. WineASIO (if you plan to test .exe)
5. FSThost for VST's .dll  (haven't tried festige/FST, it'll work though)

notes:

You might like to enable binfmt_misc for windows binaries. check how your disto handles it, it's probably not hard info for you to find. :)

Tuning:

for those who performance tune; on this kernel enable Latencytop, in your kernel config (make menuconfig). Latencytop is under 'kernel hacking'.
One you have that (compiled / running, type:

 'sudo Latencytop' ~

experiment with your machine (under different applicable) worksloads/pressures/stress, figure out any remains bottlenecks and ditch them. You biggest complainer in the end should be X / compositor.... as a side note Ulatencyd can be used to manage your settings, for additional semi-automated control of priorites on your running system.

after you are happy, you can disable all debugging, and recompile for production.

you should learn about tuning block devices and other tricks. I'll probably talk about stuff like that in more detail, at some point.
