A little late but thanks for the answer. Another question, i use an iptables script that is loaded before iplist, if i redirect all the traffic (input, output) from a determined user to a different chain (not input, output or forward), would that work? Would the packets of that user not be filtered and the packets from other users be? Thanks in advance!

Hi! :-)
I tried to install iplist at debian lenny x64, but I failed!
First of all, I installed gdebi-gtk, sun-java 6, and the 2 needed libraries.
Then I downloaded the x64 debian deb, I launced gdebi-gtk and I opened it.
I pressed "install" button......and nothing! Gdebi just crashed! :-(
Then, I tried with debian with kde desktop this time (I have both desktops installed)...

Try this [howto][1] . Just copy & paste the commands in the code area into your terminal.

I'm new to linux. How do you get this program onto your computer and actually install it? Using Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala. Do you paste code in the terminal window to download and install? Which code? I tried pasting things but it doesn't install.
Thanks.

The -r option would be best for that scenario. It causes a complete stop and start operation.
fail2ban might be an alternative but iplist can block more IPs efficiently.

hmm.. I was thinking whether one could use this for a webserver too.. with a block file frequently updated from cron, populated with anything that attempts an exploit (like, attempting to find phpmyadmin lying around).
so, if I want to avoid the server being firewalled from everything for a second or two every minute (or hour, havent decided yet!), it'd probably be best if the iptables bits...

"ipblock -p" only restarts the iplist daemon. During the refresh all new connections are dropped.
regards.

Hi, just wondering about when using ipblock CLI: how does one signal the running iplist process when one has manually updated a block list file? Or is a "ipblock -r" required? And what happens to the firewall while the list is being refreshed? Thanks.
Anyways, it looks like a really neat utility, well done!

copy feature for the gui would be nice or even a click and it opens an ip-tracker.
Thanks
great work so far.
