Had an issue with osx 10.8.5 but the developer was quick to fix the problem and release a working version.

Download and installed both git-1.8.5.2-intel-universal-snow-leopard.dmg and git-1.9.0-intel-universal-snow-leopard.dmg. Both times I got the "Illegal instruction: 4 " error.
WORK AROUND:
I needed git asap to do my project so I got it from here:
1) Go to Apple's Developer Website: "Download for Apple Developer"
httpx://developer.apple.com/downloads/index.action?name=for%20Xcode%20-#
2) Install the "Command Line Tools (OS X Lion) for Xcode - April 2013"
3) After the install, I can run "git --version" and git works after that:
j-choosakuls-computer:local root# git --version
git version 1.7.12.4 (Apple Git-37)
4) enjoy!

Works like a charm — I've been upgrading git all the time using this package and never had the slightest problem. My only issue is that it lags slightly behind the latest & greatest supported git package — it's really a pity it's not kept up-to-date with, say, the Linux version. The download is a bit slow for my tastes, but 'slow' doesn't mean 'several hours' — more like a minute or two as opposed of the few seconds that my available bandwidth ought to allow to retrieve. Again, that's fine for me!

Thanks! Installed perfect in Lion (10.7.5). Had issues with prev versions (errors), which held me back @ 1.8.4.2.
