I am getting the same error. Running on Vista with MAMP (PHP5, Apache2, MySQL5)
I have tried that change and I am still getting the error.
Any ideas please?

I am getting the below error when i try and launch the page ::
"Writing failed. The permissions are <? echo $b;?> which is not enough!"
"Writing succesfull! The permissions of config.inc.php now are <? echo $b;?>. Change it back to at least 755!"

OS: Windows 2003 SP2
webserver : IIS with PHP 4.1 installed
dataserver : Mysql 4.1...
i just downloaded the 1.6pre_release, and in install.php u are asigning value to $this, but $this is reserved for it is pointer on object itself. this doesnt work on php5 just change it to something else, or use the submitted file.
