This is true, the font's are surely NOT free!
our institution adopted a logo with Verdana font, and was made pay royalties for display of it.
just because they're downloadable doesn't make the typefaces free---in fact, they are not only NOT GPL, they are totally unfree!

Finding fonts that allow distribution of modified versions from sourceforge is difficult since many projects specify invalid license field in their description.
The project description of this project states
"License : GNU General Public License (GPL)"
Isn't this incorrect and misleading if modified versions of the fonts can not be distributed?.

This package does not contain fonts for Asian languages like Chinese or Japanese. I am not sure about the other languages (Arabic, Hebrew, Thai, ...) because I do not know how are the fonts for these named.
These fonts are supposedly downloadable from Microsoft and there are some floating around the net. However, the download location at Microsoft is well hidden so it would be very helpful...
