About functions returning functions –
The handbook on CLISP says : «In Common Lisp, as opposed to Scheme, it is not possible that the car of the compound form to be evaluated is an arbitrary form. If it is not a symbol, it must be a lambda expression.» This explanation corresponds to my experience in trying to code in Lisp.
Nevertheless some Lisp code seems to override this limitation...

The documentation is written in HTML making this difficult Were it in DocBook or something I would consider it.

Tells how one can read a file into a string using buffers to speed up the process. Furthermore, it mentions about how one also can alter the :ELEMENT-TYPE of the read data.

Saw the documentation and thought if it was possible to have a mirror copy of the documentation released as pdf, dvi or even latex compatible files
Perhaps even generated and stored in cvs, or not. However, you decide. :)
Doing a websearch for:
"The Common Lisp Cookbook +PDF"
doesn't yield any results that I found to be related to what I'm looking for. :(.
