  • Log4cxx Performance Comparisons Results

Hi Guys, I've put the code and results into [trac][1]. For the basic tests, null appender, file appender and severity filtering boost log performed roughly **1.5 times slower** Keep in mind this is **initial results**. The code needs a look over to ensure everything is equivalent and, if not (which is probable), what needs to be fixed. Cheers, Sam Have a read through. [1]:

  • Followup: RE: Disabling Logging

Yep, I've had problems with sourceforge mail being marked as spam. When I sent the first message I wasn't logged in properly so I'm not sure what the sender address is. Maybe noreply@sourceforge? (I was logged in via OpenID but did not have a sourceforge account so it couldn't come from my alias.) I'll figure out how to use Trac and see if that is sufficient. I'll start a new thread soon.

  • Followup: RE: SNMP support

Dependency is not a problem. The problem is that AFAIK netsnmp usage pattern implies user code generation, which is not in line with Boost.Log implementation and limits extensibility.

thanks for replying, nice to know that, i guess wrapping net-snmp could be the way to go maybe, i dont know about your thoughts on wrapping 3rd party libs :) is an already prooven lib but it would create a dependency!

BTW, there is also Trac available. You can create a ticket and attach files to it.

2 sgundry: The sole message I received from you was marked as spam, so I didn't see it. However, that message didn't contain any questions, so I guess I didn't miss anything. :) The best way to contact me is through email. You can use the SourceForge alias to do this. I think, SourceForge should pass attachments through, so you can try to send test cases that way. Regarding the results, I...

This feature is in TODO list. However, I have no idea of when or how it will be implemented.

  • Followup: RE: Disabling Logging

I'm hesitant to post my results at this stage since I may not have coded both log4cxx and boost-log equivalently. I would like Andrey and others to have a look at it the code first. By the way, I didn't expect you to post your email address on here but you could send me a _private_ message via sourceforge.
