The Airborne Data Processing and Analysis (ADPAA) package is an open-source
software package containing a collection of programs and scripts to process
and analyze data from in-situ instruments deployed on airborne platforms.
The ADPAA package was started to process data on the North Dakota Citation
Research Aircraft but has been used to process data on many airborne platforms.

The core processing routines are written in Interactive Data Language (IDL).
New software development is currently being conducted using python exclusively.
ADPAA constitutes a complete processing package, starting with probe data
recorded a Science Engineering Associates (SEA) aircraft data acquisition system
and processed by data levels to produce high-level data in UND/NASA ASCII,
ICARTT and NetCDF formatted files. ADPAA currently only supports the SEA
data acquisition system; however, support for other aircraft data systems could
easily be added. Support is provided for processing of data recorded directly by
some instruments (CCNC, AIMMS, etc). ADPAA routines process a range of data,
including cloud scattering probes (FSSP, CDP), cloud imaging probes (1-DC, 2-DC
HVSP, CIP, PIP), cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) counters, condensation
particle counters (CPC), icing probes, aircraft winds, humidity probes,
temperature probes, GPS systems, and water content probes. The ADPAA processing
software routines are based on the instrumentation manuals and references
contained within the instrument manuals.

The IDL visualization modules (Cplot/Cplot2) allows visualization of data
quickly. Cplot/Cplot2 supports both flight and field project level analysis
of airborne data. The Cplot/Cplot2 modules supports quality control of
instruments by providing processing routines to conduct performance checks on
data. Additionally, support is provided for conducting quality assurance by
the integration of data visualization and the creation of "edit" files.

is described in the peer-reviewed paper:
