#24 backing store

It appears that backing store and save unders
are not yet supported. It's my understanding
that this is what's necessary to support
fast redrawing of bit map windows (like vncviewer).

The time it takes to redraw my vncviewer windows
is the only complaint I have about this fine port.

Is this something that still needs to be developed?
(Or maybe I missed a config option somewhere.)

Currently we don't support backing store of save unders. You can't turn this on with a config option (yet), but your feature suggestion is a good one.

We haven't looked at backing store / save unders yet. It should be trivial to turn them on in full-screen mode. For rootless mode we may need to do something more sophisticated because we're already double-buffering every X11 window. We'll look at this after XFree86 4.2 ships.
