XDarwin Exits on Launch
Brought to you by:

Hello,
Hope this isn't a stupid error on my part. I'm
running OS 10.1 on a Powerbook G4. I am
running 1.0a3 and I do have the paths in my shell
init files. I am running XFree86 4.1 downloaded in
binary form from XFree86.org.
I can launch XDarwin from the command line with:
startx -- -quartz -keymap USA.keymapping
I am presented with the XDarwin splash screen
which lets me choose rootless mode, etc.
Functions just fine.
When I double click the XDarwin application, I
receive the splash screen, then the application
quits.

have a similar problem with OS 10.1 on regular G4
(1) logged on as root
(2) opened Terminal window
(2) cd /
(3) tar xvf [same downloaded Xfreee binaries]
(4) tar xvf [same XDarwin binaries]
XDarwin works in both full screen and rootless mode
as long as I login as root but have identical problem
when I login as a user even though the user is an
Admin

XDarwin.app prints messages visible in Console.app. If you post them here we can check it out.
Which shell are you using? Which shell startup files set PATH? 1.0a3 is picky about precisely which files set PATH; it's possible for PATH to be set in Terminal shells but not in XDarwin. 1.0a4 (coming Real Soon Now) should fix this.

I get this same problem, of the whole program just
shutting down. Under console, I see the following:

A host of startup problems when starting by double clicking in the Finder have been fixed in XDarwin 1.0.4. Try the newest version and you should have much better luck.
