Hi everyone, I thought I'd let everyone know Ken True responded (such a gentleman!) and is interested in a wview plugin for the Saratoga Weather pages. :) I'll write updates from time to time as to how that effort is going. That needs to happen first before we product-ize the bridge. Take care and have a good weekend everyone! Hi everyone, After installing the latest version of the Saratoga S/W, I believe I have a better understanding of how I need to progress. As Dave indicated, I need to submit a new plugin. Call it `WV' I'll have to talk with Ken True (owner of Saratoga S/W) to see how he'd like me to progress. My current running environment is a one-off from the Weather Display version of the Saratoga S/W. It'd be too much of a hack job to attempt to package it. Thank you. I'm currently preparing my weather laptop with the latest Saratoga bits. I just finished configuring apache so it'll serve my test pages. I'm trying to ensure that the main site runs with minimal interruption. Hi Pablo, no need to apologize about your progress on a private project! I do think it would be a shame not to put it out. Even if you don't get much of a response now I'm sure given some time there will be people using this bridge as it opens up wview for near-real-time reporting. You have put a lot of effort in it and as it is it works already. Just throw the files at GitHub and see what happens. Hi everyone, First I must apologize for not doing any work on this project. Except for getting my own environment working. Before I do anything, I wanted to ask whether people are still interested in this `bridge'. There's so many charting options now ... please let me know what you decide. I do like the Saratoga pages and the RRD bolt-on I created. Although the RRD stuff, I'd rather have done some .js along with it. That's exactly it. I also extended my Saratoga s/w so I'm sending some additional data in the clientraw.txt file. > Or is the documentation to show the proper steps to take (ie setup > etc). That's right: setup and configuration. I also have an architectural diagram on paper I need to translate. Any one piece isn't significant, just the whack put together requires time. I did just finish another OSS commitment ... well, I'm almost done ... :) ... so I believe I /should/ be able to start hacking on this work. However, consulting work always trumps OSS. :) > I am just evaluating meteohub right now but would rather not pay > for the product and use wview. You could start out with just wview and use, IMO, the ugly web pages. You probably know that ... wview and Saratoga are running on my same web server (which is a bit of an in-joke as it's just a crusty laptop): http://weather.hillsandlakes.com - Saratoga fed from wview http://wview.hillsandlakes.com - wview Cheers, -- Pablo Sanchez - Blueoak Database Engineering, Inc Ph: 819.459.1926 Blog: http://pablo.blog.blueoakdb.com Fax: 760.860.5225 (US) |

Would I be able to take a look at the code you've done? I gather you have the php templates set up for using WD and are sending a couple of files to your webserver that the saratoga files require to parse. Or is the documentation to show the proper steps to take (ie setup etc). I am just evaluating meteohub right now but would rather not pay for the product and use wview. Howdy, If you didn't catch it on the main `wview' e-mail alias, we found the source of the memory leak in the 5.18.0pX release. I'm going to monitor `htmlgend' memory usage for the next 24-hours and if its memory doesn't creep up, we're good to move forward with our project. Hi everyone, I've been smeared at work so I haven't been able to work on `wview2saratoga' There's only one major item remaining: wview's memory leak when forking post-processes. This of course is bad because we need to make use of wview's post-process feature and I have to restart wview every few days less. I need to chase this bug down before I release `wview2saratoga' Cheers, -- Pablo Sanchez - Blueoak Database Engineering, Inc Ph: 819.459.1926 Fax: 760.860.5225 (US) |

Howdy, I believe I've finished developing the bridge. I went ahead and completed the remaining items (e.g. auto-updating moon data) as it didn't appear anyone is clamoring for the code. Items on the agenda: o check-in code o document how one can setup similar o developer's document Cheers, -- Pablo Sanchez - Blueoak Database Engineering, Inc Ph: 819.459.1926 Fax: 760.860.5225 (US) |

Hi everyone, I thought I'd provide a quick update. There are two issues pending: o Confirm rain-rate/hr Without rain, and not wanting to tip my rain bucket meter, I haven't been able to confirm the rain-rate/hr metric. I'll have to wait until I get a rain-tip. o Moon I'd like the moon metric to update via JavaScript. This is an enhancement to the existing page so I may shelve until later. If I shelve it, I'll start working on documentation and checking code in so it's all accessible. I'm thinking within the next couple of weeks, I may be ready for a beta tester or two. Ideally, we should have someone with imperial units as well as someone in the southern hemisphere to test the `Sun/Moon Almanac' results. Hi everyone, I have code working for Solstice and Equinox look-up: [ http://weather.hillsandlakes.com/wxastronomy.php ] The code handles both hemispheres and takes timezone into consideration. At the moment, it only works up to the year 2038. :) I may come up with a more elegant solution but `wview' has the same issue on 32-bit machines. For now, I have to suspend work to do some consulting. You know, pay the bills. :) Cheers, -pablo Remaining TODO ============== o Implement trends-inc.html I had this page disabled but now, I believe, I have all the necessary metrics to populate this page. o Add additional hooks to auto-refresh some key metrics on the main page. -- Pablo Sanchez - Blueoak Database Engineering, Inc Ph: 819.459.1926 Fax: 760.860.5225 (US) |

Hi everyone, I'm happy to announce that although I was out most of this week on a business trip, I've completed (at the airport! :) the population of the `clientraw.txt' file. This file, drives the WD portion of the Saratoga pages. If you'd like to see the values in my `clientraw.txt' file, in real-time, click below: [ http://www.tnetweather.com/wd-parser.php?site=http%3A%2F%2Fweather.hillsandlakes.com&submit=Submit ] Next on my todo is to find some code to compute equinox/solstice. Any PHP contributions welcomed! :) It's for this page: [ http://weather.hillsandlakes.com/wxastronomy.php ] Cheers, -- Pablo Sanchez - Blueoak Database Engineering, Inc Ph: 819.459.1926 Fax: 760.860.5225 (US) |

Hi everyone, I've been busily working on the `wview2saratoga' bridge. No better way to test it but on my live `Saratoga Weather' website. :) I'm tracking my progress on the home page, at the top. It's in maroon: http://weather.hillsandlakes.com Details ======= For those who are interested, I have a high-resolution `sqlite3' database which keeps a rolling window of the past 25 hours (configurable) of all the attributes of the LOOP packet. At first blush, this sounds like a lot of data but it's only 6000 rows (at 15s weather station polling intervals). This amounts to 3.1 MiB. If you've set up your station to poll once a minute, the table would be 1/4 the size: 1,500 rows and 793.6 KiB of storage. The design allows for the core `Saratoga Weather' files to be generated locally on the same machine as `wview' Once generated, they can be ftp'd to another host - I may write code to do this .... or at least documentation as it's simple. Of course, if your `wview' machine has sufficient cycles, you can also host the `Saratoga Weather' pages on it. This is what I do and I have a wimpy laptop serving the pages: 512 MB of RAM, 633 MHz CPU. Cheers, -- Pablo Sanchez - Blueoak Database Engineering, Inc Ph: 819.459.1926 Fax: 760.860.5225 (US) |
