the irc server or the port could be incorrect or the irc server you try to connect is restricted to an local area, and the httpgateway is outside that area.
better error messages will be added in an later version

I am having some problems with WLirc (it never worked for me). I instaled on a SonyEricsson T610, and tried to connect to PT-Net, Random EU Dalnet server and Random EU EFnet server.
Always got a java exception error :(
This looks like the only irc client that could work for T610, and I hope you can work this out.
Wlirc use the first configured APN on the Sony Ericsson T610 or Z600. This APN should be a GPRS/Internet APN, not a WAP or MMS APN. Each APN on the Sony Ericsson T610 or Z600 has a unique identifier known as a CID, where the CID can be found by selecting Connectivity -> Data comm -> Data accounts -> <APN Name>. Wlirc will always connect through CID=1, so if the current APN associated with CID=1 is not a GPRS/Internet APN, simply create a new APN, copy the APN settings from the APN associated with CID=1 and then copy your GPRS/Internet settings to the APN associated with CID=1.
You need to set up an access point with direct internet access, that doesn't go through the WAP gateway. You should contact your network operator and ask them for the settings to configure an internet access point, or you could try this page http://www.reqwireless.com/apns.html

Hi,
I recently downloaded this software onto my Nokia 3510i, and upon discovering it doesn't support sockets, i went about trying a HTTP gateway.
I set it up as per the readme on my computer, set the phone up, and tried to connect.
However, the program keeps coming up with "Could not connect to gateway (Error from IRC gateway)
Any ideas?

to find your apn name for your network, look here http://www.reqwireless.com/apns.html
Im having the same problems with a T610 and my settings (CID etc.) seems to be correct. Hope you can fix it....Wlirc looks VERY promising :)
Maybe this will help...

Im getting the same error as gohan857 on my 6610..
Triple checked all adresses, nicks, ports and channels, nothing seems to help.
I can run a gateway on my own computer, since im behind a firewall..
cant*
Unfortunately, I'm also getting the HTTP gateway errors, on both my gateway and also on the gateway servers provided by the thesverre.
My gateway is accessible by others (tested this out by having a friend access the test URL).

Isn't there a way to let the users of wirc decide which CID to use themselves?
nope, the implementation of java in se t610 is done like that by the phone vendor.
I`m sorry but this address "http://thesverre.serverbeer.com/wap/httpgateway" does not work. What should I do?=(((I have Sony Ericsson k790
send please answer to e-mail ^_^
