Whitebeam 1.3.12 Web Application Server

Whitebeam is a mature web-application server provided as an Apache module providing server-side JavaScript. This release further enhances Whitebeam's capabilities in the area of chat-servers, providing the server infra-structure to deliver a Facebook like chat experience through user applications.

Application development is similar to client-side technologies - based around XML, JavaScript and a server-side DOM. The PostgreSQL database provides high-performance data storage.

Release 1.3.12 contains major enhancements to functionality including:
+ Enhanced real-time chat-server functionality allowing multiple concurrent conversations per user.
+ contact management enhancements
+ file management enhancements allowing arbitrarily big files to be stored in the database.

Whitebeam is released under a BSD style license - enabling more flexible adoption of this key server-side technology.

Release details can be found at http://www.whitebeam.org/CHANGELOG.rhtm.

The major design aims for Whitebeam are simplicity of application development, familiarity with existing client side technologies, security, scalability (Whitebeam provides an unlimited number of front end web servers working concurrently) and reliability.

The commercial roots for Whitebeam have led to a complete set of application development documentation and a number of useful examples, including a Content Management application as well as a set of 'cookbook' examples to help new developers build applications. All the documentation is available on the Whitebeam homepage at: http://www.whitebeam.org
