I'd recommend that you try and find out if your distribution will list what files are installed by which packages and then look for the directory in your Apache package. I'm sure Google could help you in your endeavor. |

I'm trying to install webvcr but already am somewhat confused...the HOWTO says "Now to the fun part :) Setting up WebVCR+! First, go download WebVCR+ here. Untar the archive into a directory that is in your webserver's root, so that you can access it through your webserver. Then cd into that directory and type" well, i'm not sure what directory my webserver's root is at...or if i even have one or what? I have all the required things installed including apache, which i assume is what i need...any help would be great...TIA |

Well as a new user of WebVCR+ that had a bit of trouble getting it all going :> I'd suggest a command line script that drops the DB that manages the raw data in the database. Something that can clean the settings, or rebuild trashed db's, or even wipe and destroy the whole thing. When I was initially setting up WebVCR+ I ran into a problem where my copy of MySQL on Fedora Core2 would report a DB as dropped, but not actually remove it. This meant that as I was trying to re-install, the setup.pl script would die every time it came to the database part. Anyway thanks for the great program, and I plan on becoming more of a voice in here as I get familiar with it :> Chuck Wolber wrote: >On Wed, 2 Jun 2004, Paul Gratz wrote: > > > >>I was wondering if it was possible to either clear or edit the database >>of previously recorded programs. Hey all, I just wanted to report a couple things I've noticed with the latest CVS updated version of webvcrplus. I did finally solve my problem with listings.pl, it turned out to be a network problem so now I can do a db update via cron w/o any problem. There are two problems I'm having now: 1. On the "currently scheduled programs" page there is no-longer any way to deselect something selected to record. For some reason now the unrecord button no longer is there. 2. I've noticed two different programs that do not work as favorites. One of them is called "The NewsHour With Jim Lehrer" the other one is "ABC World News Tonight" (yes, I'm a news junkie). What seems to happen is that the first "episode" will be recorded but from then on it seems to think it already has the new episodes recorded and will not record them again. When I wiped out my db I was able to once more record one episode of each before it would no longer schedule them for recording. =20 Do any of you have any knowledge of how to fix these problems? The first one is slightly annoying, the second one is debilitating to me. Thanks! Paul |

Paul Well, you could always drop the tv database and rebuild it again with setup.pl. It's a good question though. I'm a bit reluctant to add it to the web interface because of accidental deletion or abuse. What does everyone else think? -Chuck -- http://www.quantumlinux.com Quantum Linux Laboratories, LLC. Yeah, I did do that already. The odd thing is that I had the old version kind of working with the new tv_grab_na_dd. I was dl'ing it and putting it in the db. It even would record my favorites but the display of now on tv was messed up. Once I cvs updated though listing.pl seems to be broken. You might also want to try running the grabber on it's own to make sure it's able to download the listings. I had to register with zap2it to get it working. registering is a bit of a pain, but they havea pretty nice web interface to the lineup so you can edit the channel info that's sent to you. I did a cvs update (the same as dl'ing the new release right?) and I've found a couple bugs. The first one is that there is no way to select the tv_grab_na_dd. I was able to hack the listings.pl script to be called but now when it runs it seems to be grabbing all the programming correctly but nothing gets scheduled. It seems like there is nothing now in the db for tv because none of the links show any programs ("now on tv" nor any of the movies links). Should I be reinstalling from scratch instead of using cvs? Hello, I just wanted to see if anyone here could help me. I've been using WebVCR+ for a while and I love it. Earlier this week Zap2it changed their format which required that the xmltv be updated. Unfortunately this update partially breaks WebVCR+ in its current form. I had to do one hack to make the listings.pl script work, that was to change the line that calls the grabber so it now calls the new version of tv_grab_na_dd (instead of tv_grab_na) the _dd version is the only one that works for me now. Here is that line after the change: if ($xmltv_source eq 'tv_grab_na') { system("tv_grab_na_dd --days $days --output=3D$xmltv_listing --days=3D$days") =3D=3D 0 || die "Listings not updated in listings.pl!\n"; This works somewhat now, it is recording the shows again however it does not display them properly on the "Now on TV" page anymore (it scrambles the channel order and only shows current shows not future ones). I don't know too much about php so I haven't tried to fix it. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks! Paul |

Hi All, After a long hiatus, I finally have a new webvcr+ box up and recording my favorite shows. I ended up re-implementing two of my favorite features that I never got included back into the main distro. I was wondering if I should make patches against 0.9.2.7 for them. Somebody let me know. The first features is this: In the menu, just below the free space I have "free time". On the settings page I have added a config "Size (in MB) of 1 minutes of recorded video", if this number is greater than 0 then a line is printed out something like this: 15 March 2004, 12:15PM 147402 MB Free 409:27 Free time I was also thinking about converting MB to GB if it was over a certain threshold. Second Feature: Adding another line to the config page, "Store recorded shows in subdirectories", if that box is checked. record.pl (and convert.pl, but I haven't done that since I don't convert) will create a subdirectory named after the show. So if it was recording "The Simpsons - Bart's Girlfriend" it would actually store it in $savedir/The Simpsons/The Simpsons - Bart's Girlfriend.avi Other features I have been thinking about. Making the 'data' directory un-viewable from the Video Library link. Adding a "(download)" link next to the file in the video library (have implemented, but not generic enough to commit). Other things I've thought about would be "Most recently recorded shows" on the front page. What is the current status of the project? Thanks, Brian |

furious_tv ( http://furioustv.sourceforge.net/ ) supports this feature. It's also written in C so the listings parser is a lot faster. I basically modelled furious_tv after webvcr+ except it uses a GNOME interface for editing (there's also a web-based one, but it's not as good as webvcr+). If you'd like any information about how I implemented multiple device support, I'd be glad to tell you how I did it (in case you're looking for ideas). It's been a bigger job that I had expected. I've also fixed a lot of bugs. I plan to check in a ton of the code for testing in the next month or so. Once it's bug free and released I'll be able to work on other features. In the meantime, I would ask that the other developers check with me before checking in any code to CVS. -Chuck |

To solve this, I deleted both databases and started from scratch. What I found was that the problem didn't have anything to do with my trying to set up two installations. The error showed up for a single installation. The problem was solved by giving more mysql permissions to the user associated with the database. I don't know if this problem arose because of a change in mysql (I'm using mysql 4.0.16-2 in Debian unstable), or because of a change in webvcr+. -- Lance Simmons |

hi ppls for all the aussie users running tv_grab_au, there is now a new (0.2) version with a few bugfixes that affected regional channels (if your a regional user you know what im talking about!), and finally have added Optus and Foxtel pay-tv listings support. looking forward to feedback from paytv users as i havnt tested paytv lists that well, although the xml output is clean and tv_sort can add the stop times like before, i did rush it a little since i know so many people want paytv support. happy xmltv'ing everyone :) -- rohbags. The setup you described is something I attempted to solve with furious_tv ( http://furioustv.sourceforge.net/ ), a UNIX (esp. Linux) PVR. It supports multiple capture cards, doesn't require a database server or a web server, and has a GNOME interface (ftv_gnome). ftv_gnome automatically informs the user of conflicts and can optionally resolve them based on TV show priorities. If you want to use WebVCR+ and you know a bit about SQL, detecting conflicts shouldn't be that difficult to do. A query similar to this should work through MySQL in the WebVCR+ database: select pid from program where record = 1 and start >= '$start' and start < '$stop' order by start asc limit 20; Replace $start and $stop with the values of a currently selected program (i.e. you have to execute the above command once per program... a shell script might be a good idea here =). I hope that information helps! On Mon, 2003-09-29 at 18:07, Lance Simmons wrote: > Is there a way to find out when there are scheduling conflicts?
